Utility: Convert HTML from ANSI to UTF-8 and Vice Versa

(Tested using IE6, IE7 and Firefox 3)

This web page makes it very easy for you to convert HTML files from ANSI, ISO-8859-1, or Windows-1252 format to UTF-8. It also allows you to easily convert UTF-8 format HTML files to ISO-8859-1 / Windows-1252 compatible ANSI. A log file is created which gives detailed statistics on the changes made.

Normally, “TextBox1”, “TextBox2” and “TextBox3” are used for input, and “TextBox4”, “TextBox5” and “TextBox6” are used for output.

The button above facilitates the creation of new sample scripts. It converts the contents of “TextBox1,” “Script,” “TextBox2,” and “TextBox3” into this web page’s source code format for a sample script, and puts the results into “TextBox4”.

The button above converts ordinary text into a “Regular Expression” search string. Simply manually enter or copy/paste the text, including any special characters or <Enter> characters, into the text box, and then click . (The regular expression search string replaces the ordinary text.)

NOTE: This web page was created using Notepad. Except for the background image file, the keyboard command JavaScript file, and the font / color data JavaScript file, it is completely self contained, and the absence of these three files will not cause any problems. Please feel free to save it to your hard drive using “File/Save as….” Double-click on the newly created “Utility Script Text Editor” icon (“ScriptTextEditor” icon for Firefox), and make it one of your “Favorites.” It will work perfectly even when you are no longer connected to the Internet, or, heaven forbid, when this web page is no longer available!
