Why revolutionary? 1) Because even though no oil is used, 99% of the popcorn pops with absolutely no scorching! 2) Because even though no butter is added, it’s probably the most delicious popcorn that you’ve ever tasted!

Please give it a try. You may be pleasantly surprised.

1. Add ⅓ cup of popping corn to a Nordic Ware™ 12-cup capacity microwave popcorn popper. (Do not add any oil or salt.)

2. Microwave for 2½ minutes (Less than 2½ minutes if your microwave oven is rated at more than 1000 watts.)

3. Being careful not to include any of the unpopped kernels, transfer 3 handfuls of popcorn to a bowl that holds at least 6 cups (1½ quarts).

4. In order to allow the toppings added in step numbers 8 and 9 to stick, spray the popcorn in the 2nd bowl 4 to 6 times with a fine mist of water, rotating the bowl ¼ turn after each spray.

5. Repeat step numbers 3 and 4 until all of the popped popcorn is transferred.

6. Re-microwave the unpopped kernels for 2 minutes or until the popping slows to one pop per second, whichever comes first. (No scorching allowed!)

7. Repeat step 5.

8. Shake a generous amount of Howie’s Best Popcorn Spice¹ on top until very little white is still visible.

9. Shake a generous amount of Parmesan & Romano Grated Cheese² (US$3.19 for 8 ounces from Econo Foods™) on top.

10. Serve with unsweetened lemonade.³ (optional)

¹ Howie’s Best Popcorn Spice consists of a mixture of the following 12 powdered ingredients: 2 parts compounded asafoetida (optional), 2 parts basil, 1 part black pepper, 1 part cayenne pepper, 3 parts celery salt (US$6.49 for 32 ounces from Econo Foods™), 1 part chili pepper, 6 parts coriander, 4 parts cumin, 2 parts fenugreek (optional), 4 parts ginger, 3 parts popcorn (extra fine) salt (US$4.99 for 17 ounces from Econo Foods), and 4 parts turmeric. (Asafoetida and fenugreek are available from East Indian grocery stores.) An alternative is to use one or both of the following: a) Kernel Season’s™ Popcorn Seasoning (Butter) (US$1.95 for 2.85 ounces from Walmart™ Supercenter™) b) Popcorn salt.

² An alternative is to use powdered cheese from Mac ’N Cheese boxes. Simply pour it into a shaker and put the pasta portions into a one gallon Ziploc™ bag for future use in a recipe such as: Grain & Bean Soup from Scratch in Less than 10 Minutes!. One box of Mac ’N Cheese contains approximately 1½ ounces of powdered cheese which provides enough for approximately 3 batches of popcorn. Another alternative is to use one or both of the following: a) Kraft™ Macaroni & Cheese - Cheese Topping. (US$1.59 for 3 ounces from Econo Foods) b) Great Value™ 100% Parmesan Grated Cheese (US$3.28 for 8 ounces from Walmart Supercenter).

³ Omitting the sugar not only saves money/calories, but it also makes for superior thirst quenching! Once you get used to the sour taste, you’ll be hooked. Simply add a package of Kool-Aid™ brand (all natural) lemonade (USY:\DOSSTUFF\MFP(LLBest.com)_v28\MFP_DragAndDropPerlCodeOnMe_v28.bat.20 from Walmart™ Supercenter) to 1½ quarts of pre-cooled well or filtered water. I pre-cool the water in two 24 ounce (1½ pint) Gatorade™ containers: the type which allow you to squirt the cool, refreshing drink directly into your mouth without touching your lips to the container. Empty the two containers of pre-cooled water into a glass container. (The purpose of using a glass container is so that warming of the water is minimized.) I use a 2 quart Pyrex™ brand measuring container. Add the Kool-Aid and mix thoroughly. In order to insure that the two containers are of equal strength, half fill one, fill the other, and then fill the remainder of the first. Refrigerate until ready to serve. As the lemonade is consumed, rinse the containers out, refill with water and refrigerate. Instead of keeping only two such containers refrigerated, I use three so that there are two containers full of refrigerated water available when the last of the lemonade is consumed.
