Pain has a purpose. Avoid taking pain killers as much as possible. Taking a pain killer before surgery or before having your teeth drilled makes sense, but pain that occurs spontaneously is nature’s way of telling you that something is wrong.
Habitually taking a particular pain killer can cause an addiction, and can cause you to become more and more immune to it, thus necessitating a constantly increasing dose. Pain killers also have a tendency to make one intoxicated, thus creating the increased possibility of accidents, damaged relations with other people, decreased productivity, etc. Anything which makes one intoxicated is, by definition, a toxin, in other words, a poison. Toxins/poisons cause harm to the body, thus creating more problems and more pain in the future.
If doing something such as taking a relaxing sauna bath, eating a particular thing, or massaging the afflicted area of the body relieves the pain, then the pain is nature’s way of telling you that these things need to be done. If you immediately take a pain killer every time you experience some pain, then you will not perform the things that are needed to get at the root cause of the pain. Then you are apt to get the pain again later, only worse.
